His Majesty King Abdullah, on Friday, congratulated Antonio Guterres following his appointment as the new United Nations secretary general.

During a phone call, King Abdullah expressed confidence that the UN, with its new secretary general, could continue performing its global role, delivering its noble message and achieving its goals in serving humanity and promoting international peace and security.

The King stressed Jordan's support and full cooperation with the United Nations in finding solutions to the crises in the Middle East and the world.

Guterres hailed Jordan's role and its wise leadership in dealing with various regional and international issues, and its efforts in promoting security and stability in many areas of conflict in the world.
