King holds talks with Pakistani PM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday held talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shawkat Aziz on ways to enhance bilateral ties and the latest political developments in the region.



The King and Aziz discussed means to bolster economic relations and the possibility of establishing joint projects between Jordanian and Pakistani private sectors.



His Majesty the King stressed the necessity of enhancing joint Islamic action to face challenges, adding that clarifying the true essence of Islam is all Muslims' duty.



The King also stressed, during the meeting attended by Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit and Director of His Majesty's Office Farouq Qasrawi, the need of activating the role of the Organization of Islamic Conference to bridge the gaps between the East and the West and build bridges of understanding and cooperation.



On regional issues, the King explained Jordan's position towards the situation in the Palestinian territories after Hamas won the legislative elections there, stressing the importance of resuming the peace process as the only way to end the Palestinian - Israeli conflict.



King Abdullah voice concern over the growing tension in Iraq, outlining Jordan's efforts to preserve the unity of country.



For his part, Aziz hailed the strong ties between Jordan and Pakistan, stressing the importance of encouraging the private sectors in both countries to establish joint projects.



The Pakistani Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for His Majesty's efforts to clarify the true image of Islam, noting that Amman Message, launched by Jordan in 2004, is a distinguished imitative to show the true Islamic teachings.
