His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday urged the jobless to enroll in vocational training needed for local labour market.

King Abdullah told leaders of Bani Hamidah and Bani Abbad tribes at a Royal Court meeting that a large number of university graduates are unemployed because they hold degrees in fields unwanted in the labour market.

It's unreasonable all study humanitarian and scientific disciplines at a time when the market lacks skilled workers and technicians, the King said.

He said the meeting was part of efforts to find effective solutions to tackle poverty and unemployment, adding that previous mechanisms to address such problems were "very weak."

The King said it was important to benefit from the experiences of retired servicemen and civil servants, who can contribute to development efforts.
