His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday called for improving ties between Jordan and Japan in the economic and investment fields.

Praising the level of cooperation between the two countries, King Abdullah told visiting parliamentary secretary for foreign affairs of the Japanese government, Kiyohiko Toyama, that Jordan appreciates Japan's economic assistance.

He also highlighted Japanese assistance for the Palestinian people to overcome their harsh living conditions and high levels of poverty and unemployment.

The King also discussed with the Japanese official Hamas' victory in the Palestinian legislative elections and the role Tokyo can play to push forward the Middle East peace process.

Discussions also covered the situation in Iraq and contributions to the reconstruction process by Japanese defence force personnel, especially in the south of the country where Japan's humanitarian mission is stationed.
