His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met U.S. Congress leaders and members of the appropriation committees at the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Their talks focused on the situation in the Middle East and bilateral relations, with special reference to economic and trade ties between Jordan and the US, as well as the developmental programs being carried out by the Jordanian government. The congressmen acknowledge King Abdullah's efforts to realize regional peace and to communicate the principles of Islam in order to build bridges of understanding amongst nations.

During his meeting with Senate and House appropriation committee members, King Abdullah underlined the importance of increasing American aid to Jordan to help it cope with fuel price increases. US annual aid to Jordan amounts to US$450 million, of which $250 million is military assistance. King Abdullah also outlined Jordan's reform programs aimed to improve living standards of its people.

In his remarks, the King referred to Jordan's campaign to promote the language of dialogue and understanding and highlight the common values and noble teachings of the three monotheistic faiths. King Abdullah said the Amman Message, which articulates the principles of Islam, is the pillar of this effort.
