King Condoles Tueni Family

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday sent a cable to the Tueni family, expressing condolences over the death of Lebanese publisher and parliamentarian Gibran Tueni. Tueni, along with a number of civilians, was killed in a bomb blast in Beirut on Monday. The King extended his sympathies to all of Tueni's relatives, saying, "We denounce this hideous and cowardly act. We express to you our sincere sympathies and condolences. May God Almighty rest his soul in Heaven." His Royal Highness Prince Ali, the regent, joined the King in expressing his condolences in a cable to Lebanese President Emile Lahoud. Meanwhile, the government and Parliament condemned the bombing as an act of terrorism. The government said all forms of terrorism and criminal acts are condemnable, regardless of the identity and motives of those who commit such acts. The government extended its condolences to the Lebanese government and people and to the Tueni family. Parliament said the bombings targeted Lebanon's security and stability. In a cable to Nabih Berri, Lebanon's speaker of parliament, Lower House Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali offered condolences to Tueni's family and the Lebanese people, and said Jordanians were grief-stricken over the incident.
