King telephones Abbas, Sharon

Amman

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday separately telephoned Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during which he stressed the need to calm the situation between Palestinians and Israelis and prevent further escalation between both sides.

King Abdullah called upon both leaders to meet in order to pave the way for resuming dialogue and negotiations and to build on what has been achieved in the aftermath of the Israeli pullout from Gaza Strip.

In response to King's efforts to push the peace process forward, the Palestinian president and the Israeli prime minister agreed to meet on October 11 and discuss solutions to pending issues.

Urging trust-building measures and full implementation of the roadmap, His Majesty the King told Abbas and Sharon that he will visit the Palestinian territories and Israel when circumstances are adequate.
