His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday described the massive blast that claimed the life of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Al Hariri as "a cowardly terrorist act".

"The incident was not only targeting the life of martyr Rafik Hariri but also the security and stability of Lebanon and the entire region," King Abdullah told Lebanon's Future TV over the telephone during a programme hosted by Emadeddin Adib.

"This crime and great tragedy should not pass by without full, comprehensive and neutral investigation to reveal the criminals, who have no conscience, no faith and no moral, standing behind it and bring them to justice," the King said.

King Abdullah described Hariri as a statesman and a leader who dedicated his life for the service of his country, people and nation. The passing away of the former premier was "a great loss", not only for the brotherly Lebanese people, but also for Jordan, the entire Arab nation and all those who seek stability and security for the region, the King added.

"Hariri was a friend at the family level, and was a friend to Jordan. My family, I and the Jordanian people stand by his family and by Lebanon," said King Abdullah, adding that the great people of Lebanon, who realize that the aim of the crime was to undermine their unity, security, stability and democracy, are capable of overcoming the tragedy.
