King Meets Businessmen in Luxembourg

His Majesty King Abdullah II said that we are committed in Jordan to implementing an economic reform program that we started to feel its positive results in all fields.



During a meeting at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce on Thursday with businessmen and representatives of economic activities, His Majesty affirmed that Jordan seeks to enhancing the economic relations with Luxembourg and to opening new scopes of cooperation with the European markets.



The King also pointed to the Jordanian model which depends on the private sector and on attracting the investors to achieve the economic and social development.



In the presence of Duke Henry of Luxembourg and His Majesty's accompanying delegation, King Abdullah II pointed to the positive indicators of the national economy, especially the financial stability, noting that the hard currencies reached $4.8 billion.



The Kingdeclared that the growth rate of the local production is expected to reach % 6.5 this year whereas exports rose by % 44 during the first nine months of 2004.



The Monarch noted to the available opportunities for the private sector to benefit from the privatization program regarding the investment in the infrastructural projects such as water and energy. He also noted to the possibilities of benefiting from the privileges of the free trade agreement with the USA and the Jordanian-European partnership agreement.



On the other hand, King Abdullah II highlighted reforms being implemented by the government in the educational, legislative, judicial and administrative fields with a view to increase Jordan's competitiveness and to make it a model in the region.



Earlier, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Bassem Awadallah presented a briefing on investment opportunities in Jordan in various fields, pointing to the recent developments of the national economy.



Awadallah also outlined trade relations with Luxembourg and the European Union as well as opportunities of promoting exports through Aghadeer Initiative.



"King Abdullah visit to Luxembourg enabled us to discuss a number of issues with the EU particularly that cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and investment with Luxembourg," Awadallah said to Jordan News Agency.



For his part, President of Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Businessmen Community Michael Wearth expressed his country's desire to promote cooperation relations with the Jordanian private sector and to explore opportunities of launching joint projects in light of the attractive investment climate in Jordan, pointing to Jordan's economic role in the region.



In addition, Chairman of Jordan Securities Commission (JSC) Bassem Al Saket presented a briefing in which he pointed to the Jordanian financial institutions. "The JSC works on enabling investors to benefit from privileges of globalization and the current technical revolution," Saket said.
