King Meets with Congress Leaderships

His Majesty King Abdullah II started on Tuesday afternoon talks with representatives of the American legislative authority on Middle East issues and enhancing bilateral relations in all fields.



Following his meetings with American administration officials, including the US President, George W. Bush, and US Vice President Dick Cheney, His Majesty met with Head of the House Republican Policy Committee / Head of the National Security Committee, Chris Cox, and discussed with him terrorism and best ways to deal with it.



The King affirmed that the successful way to fight terrorism is through solving the Palestinian issue, enhancing the sustainable development and improving standards of living of people in the region. the King added that terrorists invest youth's despair and frustration.



On the US aid to Jordan, His Majesty met with head of the Allocations Committee in the Parliament, Bill Young, as well as members of the committee.



The King raised the issue of the US aid for the coming fiscal year and the Jordanian developmental needs for the coming two years.



The King stressed the importance of improving the standards of living of citizens, noting to the importance of providing fund and expertise for going ahead in the reform process.



In addition, the King outlined the Jordanian reform projects in the fields of education, administration, training, higher education, and justice.



On his part, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Basem Awadallah, said that enhancing the reform process and achieving sustainable development need a suitable fund, a fact that was approved by leaders of the G- 8 summit during their meeting last week.



During his meeting with Head of the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Senator Richard G. Lugar, the King stressed the importance of implementing the roadmap, pointing to the importance of both sides' commitment to implementing this peace plan.



''Peace and Stability will never be achieved in the region without having a lasting and just solution for the Palestinian- Israeli conflict'' the King said.



On the Iraqi issue, the King said that the success of the new Iraqi government depends on the support of the international community, the King pointed to the importance of achieving security in Iraq with a view to restore its stability.



For his part, the US Senator hailed King Abdullah's vision to achieve development in Jordan.
