His Majesty King Abdullah II, launched on Monday the Al Mujib Dam Project which aims at securing irrigation water for the agricultural lands in the southern Aghwar region, and providing water to tourism resorts and investment projects on the eastern shore of the Dead Sea.



The total cost of the dam, which has a storage capacity of 32 million
cubic meters was JD45 million. With the construction of this dam, the
total storage capacity of Jordan's dams increased to 217 million cubic
meters.

His Majesty was briefed by the Minister of Water and Irrigation and
Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Hazim Al Nasir, on stages and goals of the
establishments of this dam, which include providing the Arab Potash
Company and the Dead Sea Complex with their needs of water. The dam will
also provide water to the capital and improve the quality of water in
Wadi Al Mujib.

The dam was financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development
as well as the Jordanian government.
