His Majesty King Abdullah II and Bahraini Monarch Hamad Bin Issa Al Khalifeh on Saturday discussed ongoing preparations for the expected Arab League annual summit and latest developments in the Middle East region.

During their meeting in the Bahraini capital, the two leaders stressed the necessity to set a near date for a well-prepared summit, that could secure an Arab consensus on topics on the summit agenda. They hoped the upcoming summit offer momentum for the joint Arab action and promote Arab solidarity.

King Abdullah, who arrived in Manama earlier on the day on a two-day visit to Bahraini, affirmed that intensive consultations and coordination should be made between Arab states ahead of the summit to ensure its success and for the summit to come up with resolutions that consolidate Arab unity and solidarity.

Talks during the meeting covered the situation in the Palestinian areas including the continued Israeli measures against the Palestinian people, where the two leaders called for Arab and international efforts to stop the cycle of violence and push the peace process anew.

King Abdullah and Bahraini monarch denounced Israeli threats targeting life of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. Any attack on President Arafat is a violation of international charters and would spell out more tension and violence in the Palestinian areas, they said.
