King Arrives in Ankara on a Two-day Visit to Turkey

Their Majesties King Abdullah II, and Queen Rania Al Abdullah arrived in Ankara on Tuesday on a two-day official visit during which his Majesty will hold talks with the Turkish president Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyb Erdogan.



The talks are expected top focus on relations between Jordan and Turkey as well as developments in Palestine and Iraq.



The King will also meet on Wednesday with Turkish businessmen to brief them on investment opportunities provided by Jordan's economy to Turkish investors.



Upon arrival, Their Majesties were received by the Turkish president, a number of ministers and senior officials as w ell as Jordan's ambassador to Turkey.



In a statement to reporters at the airport, His Majesty said that he will discuss the distinguished ties between Jordan and Turkey as well as ways of enhancing cooperation in the political and economic fields.



"We will discuss tomorrow with Turkish businessmen the best means to help the private sector to promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries," the King added.



The King affirmed that he will discuss with the Turkish leadership the Palestinian issue which is of great importance to Jordan, stressing the importance of putting an end to violence in the Middle East.



"We have to do our best to put the peace process back on its proper track, for our region has suffered for a long, and it is now looking for justice, security and stability," the King added.



The King said that the region's peoples should feel that that can plan for the future while feeling secure, and should not look backward.



"Jordan and Turkey are neighbors of Iraq, and they are clearly affected by the situation there, and therefore, we will discuss with our Turkish brethren the best means to help the Iraqi people to secure a free and dignified life," he added.



He said that he looks forward to meeting with the Turkish prime minister this evening to discuss issues of concern to both countries, stressing that Jordan highly appreciates the important role played by Turkey in the region in general, and in achieving peace and stability in particular.



The Turkish president on his part, affirmed the strong ties between Jordan and Turkey, indicating that the King's visit to Turkey provides an important opportunity to achieve more coordination on regional issues as well as cooperation.



"His Majesty's visit to Turkey reflects the strong ties and mutual respect between the two countries," president Sezer said, describing the King's visit as important especially that it comes at a critical time the region is passing through.



The Turkish president affirmed that Jordan and Turkey represent modernity and stability in the Middle East region.



His Majesty is accompanied on this official visit, by the prime minister, minister of the Hashemite Royal Court, deputy prime minister for economic affairs and minister of industry and trade as well as the ministers of foreign affairs and planning.
