King Abdullah II Meets with Irish Businessmen

His Majesty King Abdullah II reviewed, during a meeting with Irish businessmen in Dublin on Monday, prospects of cooperation between Jordan and Ireland in the economic and trade fields.



The King noted the similarities between Jordan and Ireland, noting that what have been achieve in Ireland, is of great interest to us in Jordan.



During the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of the Hashemite Royal Court, Sameer Rifai, and the ministers of telecommunications, information technology, administrative development and planning and international cooperation, His Majesty said that Jordan seeks to develop knowledge-based industries. He expressed admiration of what the Irish have achieved especially in attracting foreign investments.



The King expressed keenness to benefit from the Irish experiences and successes, for they are considered as a model that could be applied in Jordan.



His Majesty said that Jordan's private sector has an important role to develop the national economy, indicating that there is a distinguished partnership between the public and private sectors in the Kingdom. "We work to enhance investment in human resources, train them and qualify them, and we focus on developing the education sector," he said, voicing hope that joint initiatives will be launched between Jordan and Ireland in this field this year.



King Abdullah presented plans and programs being implemented by the Jordanian government to create a conducive investment climate through the implementation of a number of steps and programs.



His Majesty touched on the free trade agreement that Jordan signed with the US, and which contributed to increasing exports and openness to world markets.



The King noted the possibility of cooperation between the private sector in both countries to contribute to the process of rebuilding Iraq due to the geographical location, and the economic ties between Jordan and Iraq.



His Majesty expressed keenness to provide all facilities to the Irish private sector to invest in Jordan.



Director of the Irish Investments and Projects Institution, on his part, briefed His Majesty on the goals of the institutions. He highly valued the King's keenness to meet Irish businessmen who expressed admiration of Jordan's investment climate, and facilities offered to attract foreign investments.
