His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with US Congressman Alcee L. Hastings, a member of the congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus, who is on a visit to the Kingdom as part of a regional tour.

Talks during the meeting covered the situation in the Middle East and efforts to launch serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, underlining the important US role in realising peace in the region.

King Abdullah commended the role of the caucus in developing bilateral ties.

He also received Anne-Marie Slaughter, policy planning director at the US Department of State, with whom he reviewed developments in the region and efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Talks also covered bilateral ties and means to foster them in different fields.
