King, Queen receive Amazon founder

His Majesty King Abdullah, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania, on Monday met with Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com, Inc.

The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, focused on investment privileges and incentives offered by the Jordanian economy, and the Kingdom’s strategic location that qualifies it to be an economic platform to reach regional and international markets.

The talks also addressed the future plans of Amazon.com, as well as the ability of Jordan, as a regional ICT hub, to attract investments in this sector, especially since it offers qualified human resources and a suitable infrastructure.

Bezos praised the privileges and incentives offered by the Jordanian economy and the Kingdom’s investment climate, which highlights the Jordanian market’s importance as a destination for various international companies.

The ICT sector contributes 12 per cent of the Kingdom’s gross domestic product.

Amazon.com, Inc. is a US electronic commerce and cloud computing company. It is one of the largest Internet-based retailers in the world.

ICT Minister Majd Shweikeh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah and several Amazon executives attended the meeting.
