His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday expressed hope that the Syrian cooperation with the UN on a probe into the assassination of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri would help find a way out to spare Syria any further consequences and avert escalation in the region.
During a meeting with the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, Walid Moallem, King Abdullah commended Syrian cooperation with the UN Security Council, especially after issuing Resolution 1636 which demands Damascus' full cooperation.
King Abdullah said forming Syrian internal committees to investigate the assassination of Hariri was a positive step, pointing out that Jordan had taken diplomatic moves before the UN resolution was issued to guarantee that Syria will not be subject to further international pressure.
Moallem said that he delivered a letter to King Abdullah from the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad on the latest developments, affirming that Damascus will cooperate with the international investigation committee.
