His Majesty King Abdullah met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in New York today. Abbas briefed the King on the outcome of his visit to the United States, and his meeting with US President George Bush on Wednesday.
King Abdullah expressed Jordan's full support for the Palestinian National Authority and its efforts to strengthen the internal front. He said Palestinian national unity is the only guarantee that Palestinian rights and aspirations can be achieved.
The two leaders agreed on steps that will be taken by Jordan, the Arab countries as well as the Palestinian National Authority to push the peace process forward in the coming weeks and months.
King Abdullah also met with the President of El Salvador Elias Saca. The two discussed ways to advance bilateral ties.
Saca expressed his country's willingness to join the Group of Eleven (G-11), which includes lower and middle income countries. The G-11 was launched by King Abdullah in New York on Wednesday at a summit grouping heads of state and foreign ministers of G-11 countries.
President Saca voiced his country's willingness to work with the G 11 to achieve the goals stated in its final communiqué, including the acceleration of reforms to ease poverty and unemployment.
