Amman , Jordan

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with ambassadors of 20 countries to Jordan.

King Abdullah discussed with the diplomats mechanisms to boost cooperation between Jordan and their countries and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, King Abdullah urged intensified efforts to overcome obstacles to the resumption of “serious and effective” direct talks between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The talks, the King said, should resolve all final status issues on the basis of well-defined terms of reference and arrive at a two-state settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

King Abdullah also called for an end to unilateral Israeli measures, including settlement construction, which is changing facts on the ground and constitutes an obstacle to peacemaking.

He also briefed the ambassadors on the reform and modernisation programmes carried out in the Kingdom to achieve comprehensive development in all spheres.

Present at the meeting were the ambassadors of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Venezuela, Brazil, Nigeria and Switzerland.

Also attending were Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State and Government Spokesperson Ayman Safadi, Minister of Culture and acting Foreign Minister Nabih Shuqum and Minister of State for Mega-Projects Imad Fakhoury.
