His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the security conference in Munich, Germany, with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, Britain’s defence secretary, the NATO commander in Europe and a US Senate delegation.

The talks dealt with various regional and international issues, foremost of which are the efforts being exerted to counter the danger of terrorism and extremism, which threaten global peace and stability, within a participatory international approach.

King Abdullah and President Rosen Plevneliev of Bulgaria talked about developments in the Middle East, including the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on regional and international security and stability, stressing the need to find a peaceful solution to the conflict that ends the suffering of Syrian people and safeguards the country's territorial unity and safety.

Plevneliev said Sofia and the world community recognised Jordan’s efforts, led by the King, to bring about peace in the Middle East and address the plight of Syrian refugees and provide them with humanitarian relief aid and services.

His Majesty and the Bulgarian leader also dealt with efforts to promote tolerance, dialogue and coexistence among the followers of religions, and Plevneliev commended Jordan's contributions in this regard.

The talks also tackled Jordanian-Bulgarian ties and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and trade fields.

In two separate meetings with UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon and NATO Commander in Europe, US General Philip Breedlove, the King and the officials discussed key regional and international challenges, as well as ways to fight terrorism and extremist gangs by all parties within a coordinated, holistic approach.

His Majesty capped his meetings in Munich with an encounter with a US Congress team, led by Republican Senator John McCain, during which Jordanian-US ties were tackled, as well as regional developments, particularly the fight against terrorism and American efforts in this field, in addition to Syria.

The meetings were attended by the Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and the King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan.
