His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Sunday attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs marking Prophet Mohammad’s birth anniversary.
At the ceremony, attended by several Royal family members, speakers highlighted the life of Prophet Mohammad, who founded Islam on the basis of love, justice, equality and respect for others.
In his address, Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood spoke about Islam’s message and Islamic civilisation.
“Today we are waging a fierce war against terrorism and radicalism practised under the guise of Islam while it is in no way related to it,” Dawood said, noting that defending Islam and its message is the duty of Muslims.
Quoting King Abdullah, he said: “The war on terrorism is our war, not the war of others,” highlighting the role of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army in defending the just causes of the Islamic nation, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.
Dawood highlighted the Hashemites’ defence of the Holy City of Jerusalem, noting that it is in line with their religious and historic duties.
Addressing the attendance, Sudan’s former awqaf minister Issam Al Bashir stressed the importance of solidarity among all Muslims, away from the language of killing and bloodshed, which, he emphasised, is not related to Islam in any way.
Other speakers, including Sharia specialists Hamdi Murad and Nidaa Zaqzouq, noted that Islam calls for justice, patience, courage, mercy and the good treatment of others.
Poet and former culture minister Haidar Mahmoud recited a poem on Islam’s message.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Jafar Hassan, senior officials and officers, and diplomats from Arab and Muslim countries attended Sunday’s ceremony.
