His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Tuesday attended celebrations marking the anniversary of the Kingdom’s Independence Day, the King’s coronation, Army Day and the Great Arab Revolt.
The celebration was organised by the JAF.
King Abdullah bestowed medals on several officers and members of JAF, the Public Security Department, the General Intelligence Department and the Civil Defence Department in recognition of their services and distinguished track records.
During the celebration, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben delivered a speech, in which he stressed the qualitative leap the armed forces have seen in all fields.
He said the military has accomplished the tasks it has been entrusted to carry out, beginning with protecting the borders, enhancing stability and security and safeguarding the country’s development process, with full support from His Majesty.
Royal family members, ministers, deputies and senior military officers attended the ceremony.
On the occasion, JAF announced its decision to offer a JD30 food allowance to all army personnel to be dispensed as of 1 June 2014.
