King, Annan discuss situation in Lebanon

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday telephoned UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and discussed the deteriorating situation in Lebanon.

The King stressed the importance of intensifying UN's efforts to end the suffering of the Lebanese people.

King Abdullah underlined the need for an immediate and comprehensive cease-fire to end the killing of the innocent civilians, calling on the UN and the international community to provide all forms of assistance to help Lebanon overcome the current hard circumstances.

For his part, Annan briefed the King on the international efforts aimed at finding a solution for the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
