His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday voiced his “deep” sorrow over the death of King Abdullah.

In a statement, King Abdullah cited the late king’s “wisdom” and “farsightedness” in leading his country and promoting Arab and Islamic causes.

His Majesty expressed his confidence in the ability of King Salman, Crown Prince Muqrin and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad to serve their country and maintain Saudi Arabia’s leading role in the region and the Arab world.

The King also underlined the “strong” relations Jordan and Saudi Arabia enjoy, which present a “viable model” for Arab ties.

The Royal Court has announced a mourning period of 40 days, while the Council of Ministers on Friday announced a state of mourning across the Kingdom for three days. During the mourning period, flags will be flown at half-mast to honour the late king.
