Amman, 4 December 2002

His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed the necessity to move forward to back efforts designed to end the cycle of violence and realize peace in the Middle East.

During a meeting on Wednesday with U.S. Senators Joseph Byden and Chek Hagel, who are currently touring the region, King Abdullah also underlined the need to create the favourable atmosphere to help implement the "Road Map" after putting in its final shape.

During the meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister and U.S. Ambassador to Jordan, King Abdullah said the Arab peace initiative reflected the true Arab desire to realize peace and denounce violence.

The King stressed the importance of U.S. Congress support to the U.S. Administration in pursuit of establishing just and comprehensive peace that could restore the Palestinian people's rights and ensure security and stability to peoples in the region.
