King Abdullah II starts a working visit to Japan
Amman, 30 June 2002

His Majesty King Abdullah II Sunday started a three day working visit to Japan, where he is due to discuss with Japanese officials economic relations between the two friendly countries, Japanese aid to Jordan and increasing Japanese investment opportunities in the Kingdom.

The King's talks are expected also to focus on the Middle East latest developments, and Japan's contribution to support the moves taking place to release peace negotiations, including the proposed international conference to end the Arab Israeli conflict.

Earlier today, His Majesty arrived to Tokyo where he was received by Japanese Crown Prince Narohito and Senior Japanese officials and Arab ambassadors to Japan.

His Majesty's visit to Japan is particularly important to activate economic relations between Jordan and Japan, and discussing potentials of rescheduling Jordan's debts for Japan, in addition to increasing Japanese aid for the coming years and activating trade and investment exchange between the two countries.

Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko received His Majesty King Abdullah II in Yokohama stadium, where His Majesty attended the final soccer world tournament between Brazil and Germany.

The King met also with German Chancellor and a number of leaders and officials who attended the game.

His Majesty is due Monday to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Foreign Minister Yriko Kawagushi and a number of senior Japanese officials.

The King is due also to meet with economic activists and representatives of Japanese firms and mass media.

On Tuesday His Majesty will be the gust of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito.
