King Stresses the Importance of Conducting Transparent and Fair Elections
Amman, 6 May 2003

His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed on Tuesday the importance of holding a fair and transparent parliamentary elections.

During a meeting he chaired at the Interior Ministry in the Presence of the Prime Minister and ministers of Royal Court, Information and Interior, His Majesty called for taking all possible measures to facilitate the election process for citizens, and provide all facilities to Jordanian and foreign journalists to enable them to cover the upcoming elections which will be held on June 17.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of the participation of all citizens who have the right to vote in the elections process, to chose those who can represent them and defend their causes with a view to achieve the aspired for political development that will cope up with the soci-economic development process. He also called for taken all measures to guarantee security during the elections.

Minister of Interior Qaftan Majali briefed His Majesty on steps that have been taken by his ministry to facilitate the election process.

He affirmed that the ministry has taken all the necessary steps to create the best conditions to ensure the participation of all the political spectra.

Information Minister Dr. Mohammad Adwan for his part informed His Majesty that his ministry intends to open media centers in a number of governorates to ensure that journalists will have an easy access to the required information.

He added that the Jordan Television will attach great attention to the elections and will urge citizens to take part in this process in its talk shows.
