King checks on situation in northern region
Ajloun, 15 December 2013
His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday visited the Jordan Armed Forces’ Northern Region Command, headquartered in Ajloun, where he discussed with top commanders, along with civilian officials, ways to serve people in the area, which was one of the worst hit by the three-day blizzard which hit the country as of Thursday.
The meeting, attended by the governors and police chiefs of Irbid, Jerash and Ajloun, focused on ways to help people in areas isolated by the storm.
King Abdullah ordered delivering relief assistance and food packages to citizens affected by the storm all over the Kingdom, directing the army and police to support government agencies handling the consequences of the blizzard.
Upon His Majesty’s directives, Public Security Department (PSD) Director Gen. Tawfiq Tawalbeh on Sunday directed the police helicopter fleet to dispatch parcels of food and bread to the northern and central areas that continued to be closed due to difficult weather conditions.
The PSD director also ordered the PSD Air Wing to deliver assistance to southern areas on Monday.
On Saturday, the King made an unannounced visit to the command room at the Interior Ministry, where he was briefed on the situation by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and Interior Minister Hussein Majali.
