King, US delegation discuss ties, region
Amman, 28 July 2013
His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with a delegation of the US House of Representatives and discussed bilateral ties, ongoing peace efforts and the Syrian crisis.
King Abdullah praised US assistance to Jordan, saying it has enabled the Kingdom to carry out development programs.
On the Middle East peace process, His Majesty said Jordan will continue to support efforts to revive negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis to discuss all final status issues, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The King highlighted the importance of US leadership in restarting peace talks and hailed efforts by US Secretary of State John Kerry to push the process forward.
On Syria, His Majesty expressed great concern for the spiraling situation, stressing the need to end violence and arrive at a comprehensive political solution that ends the bloodshed and preserves Syria's unity.
Members of the delegation praised the King’s role in keeping peace hopes alive and in leading Jordan’s reform process.
The meeting was attended by Royal Court’s Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh and the US Ambassador to Jordan Stuart Jones.
